In this post, I’m going to share with you some of the most dangerous neem leaves side effects, how to prevent them from ever happening to you and most importantly what to do in case you run into one of them.
Neem leaves are probably one of the healthiest foods on this planet, they are full of nutrients and essential organic chemical compounds, most importantly, they are extremely rich in anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral compounds and high in antioxidants as well, yet they do have some side effects, in fact, the side effects you are going to see in this post are extremely dangerous and should be avoided as much as possible.
How to avoid neem leaves side effects?
The first and only way to avoid side effects caused by neem leaves is to avoid overdosing, by this I mean taking more than what your body needs and requires.
How much neem leaves should you eat?
It all depends on the neem leaves themselves, if they are raw, then you can eat as much as two tablespoons a day, however, do not exceed three days in a row, otherwise, you are going to run into the side effects we are going to talk about later on, and if you are dealing with dried neem leaves, then avoid exceeding two teaspoons a day, with the same restrictions as the raw leaves.
What about neem leaf tea?
No, you have nothing to worry about if you do not exceed one teaspoon a day of dried neem leaves to make neem leaf tea, however if you exceed this amount, you are going to run into troubles.
The first dangerous side effect of neem leaves is hypoglycemia.
Because neem leaves are associated with a lowering in blood glucose levels, over consuming them may lead to hypoglycemia, in other words, blood sugar is going to run so low that you are going to faint and have troubles concentrating; moreover, you may even enter into a coma!
The second side effect of overdosing on neem leaves is stomach troubles.
Again, if you eat too much neem leaves, you are going to run into stomach issues, cramping, diarrhea, gas, bloating, and even vomiting.
The third side effect is related to pregnancy and lactation.
If you are pregnant or lactating, you need to avoid neem leaves as much as possible as they tend to have high numbers of phytoestrogens, in other words, organic chemicals that resemble natural estrogens found in women’s body.
These phytohormones are going to mimic the effects of estrogens and can cause disruptions in the body.
The fourth side effect is an increase auto immune response.
If you are suffering from autoimmune diseases, then you have to avoid neem leaves in general as they increase your immune system functions while also increasing its reactiveness, in other words, your white cells and killer cells are going to attack your own cells more vigorously and violently.
And the fifth side effect is a reduction in the ability to conceive (infertility).
Whether you are a man or woman, abusing neem leaves is going to have many side effects when it comes to conceiving and fertility, it’s because neem leaves contain high numbers of phytoestrogens, as mentioned before, and these can cause a reduction in sperm count in men while also disturbing menstrual cycle in women.
These are the side effects you have to stay away from when consuming neem leaves, and if you notice any one of them ever happening to you, the first thing you have to do is stop taking them immediately, the second thing is to drink as much water as possible, preferably five liters a day, this is going to help clear out your system very quickly, and if within three days the symptoms didn’t disappear, you have to consult with your doctor as soon as possible.
